The Nonprofit Library
in the Municipality of General Luna, Siargao Island
A place where visitors of all ages can come to read, study and be entertained, such is the objective of the Baybayin Library. More than a library, our mission is to offer a space that the inhabitants of Siargao can appropriate, where they can develop their knowledge and their imagination, where they can create and escape around books, art, games and sharing.
A building designed specifically for the project
The library is built on two floors. The first floor is composed of a large main room used as a reception area and equipped for the youngest with toys, mats and beanbags. The second floor is reserved for students and readers looking for a quiet place. Its large surface area makes it an ideal space for reading and studying, or for organizing workshops, conferences and video screenings.
A wide selection of books for all ages and tastes
More than 3,000 books in English and Tagalog are available to visitors and most of the books can be borrowed by members. Students can also borrow computers to do research or work (only on site) and request printing and photocopying services for free.
To provide options for everyone, the library also offers a selection of books in various languages for tourists and visitors who want something to read during their stay.
Activities, movies, and workshops every week
With the help of volunteers, our team organizes various workshops, games sessions that promote the development of executive functions in younger children, board games for teenagers, movie afternoons or evenings depending on ages, and various classes for all ages. Story readings are offered every day.
The Baybayin Library offers children a safe, enriching, and entertaining place to go.
Our values as the driving force behind our actions
Access to knowledge, education, a healthy environment, and healthcare are priorities that drive many of our team’s actions. With the help of committed partners, we are implementing awareness-raising initiatives around these various topics.
Our team believes that self-confidence, the development of critical thinking, respect for others, for oneself, and for their environment, and that non-violent communication are also essential to everyone’s development. In order to help children grow by listening to themselves, listening to others, and expressing themselves, the library organizes numerous activities related to these objectives.
The Baybayin Library is dedicated to serving the local community. It is open to all regardless of their origin, sexual orientation, religion, or political views. Therefore, our organization is committed to neutrality and impartiality, and each member of its team is committed to interacting with visitors in accordance with these values without ever judging or taking sides.
